For practical and trendy reasons, a watch quickly becomes an indispensable part of your daily life, especially since your Pierre Lannier watch is waterproof to at least 3 ATM depending on the model. At work, on vacation or at home, it is the essential companion of your wrist. And this makes that with time, your watches get dirty and wear out. But don't worry, we've got it covered. In this article, you will find the best techniques to clean your watch.

How to properly clean your watch?

Being able to read the time well on your man or woman's watch has become a secondary feature when buying a watch. And for good reason, it has become a timeless fashion accessory that you can't live without. There are so many different styles and designs that it's almost impossible not to find a watch that matches your outfit. As a result, this companion is easily getting dirty by our daily activities and we rarely think to clean or dust our watches. Yet, cleaning our watches keeps them sparkling and in good condition, which significantly extends their life expectancy. To do this, you just need the right techniques! So that you can pamper your favorite timepiece as it should be, we have gathered the best of them for you.

Cleaning the case of your watch

Before starting, you should know that a watch cannot be cleaned in one go. The case and the bracelet are two separate steps. Generally, it is more common to start with the case and finish with the bracelet. To make cleaning easier, you should have a few tools at hand: a chamois or microfiber cloth, a soft bristle brush, and a specific lotion or colorless polish for the straps. First, to clean a non-waterproof case. Take a soft cloth or microfiber cloth and rub, without pressing on the case, to remove most of the dust and dirt. Once this step is completed, take a small soft brush, also known as a "watchmaker's brush". Scrub lightly on the case in a circular motion. Don't press on the case, as this may cause cracks. Iron the cloth on the case to remove all the small particles that the passage of the brush could have made appear. Finally, to complete the cleaning, moisten a corner of the chamois and pass it gently over the case, always making circles. For the crown, gently pass over it with a soft cloth to remove any dust that may have accumulated over the years. If you have a watch with a waterproof case and you want to clean it, soak it for a few seconds in warm water with soap and then follow the previous steps, remembering to dry the case with a soft cloth.

To clean its steel bracelet or Mesh steel

Let's start the second part of the cleaning: Watch straps. And more specifically, steel or Milanese mesh bracelets: rest assured, cleaning bracelets is quite simple. First, take a soft bristle brush and dampen it. Then add a dab of soap. Scrub your bracelet very gently to clean it and avoid, again, making scratches. Once done, rinse thoroughly and dry your bracelet with a soft cloth. Be aware that the steel of the bracelets is stainless, if you have a stain a little more resistant, it is possible to remove it easily with a little soapy water and a microfiber cloth.

Clean your leather bracelet

Now let's move on to cleaning leather watch straps. First of all, you should know that a leather does not get wet. Water or any other liquid can damage your bracelet. So to make sure you don't damage it, take your soft cloth again and rub it to remove as much dirt as possible. Once the dirt and dust are gone, you can use a colorless shoe polish or lotion to deeply nourish the leather and make it shiny. Finally, to keep your bracelet as beautiful as ever, you must remember to let the leather rest. So don't hesitate to change your watch straps from time to time.

Our tips for taking care of your watch every day

Finally, here are our tips and advice to take care of your Pierre Lannier watch and be sure that it can accompany you for a long time. First of all, avoid wearing your watch when you go to the beach or swimming pool unless it is a watch for this purpose, like diving watches. Salt, water and chemicals can damage your watch, especially if you have a leather strap. If you still want to take your waterproof steel watch with you, be sure to rinse it with fresh water upon arrival. Also, be careful of stains from cosmetics, hydro-alcohol gel or perfumes, so be sure to put on your watch when you are ready. Don't hesitate to do a light daily cleaning of your watch after each day. This little maintenance will slow down the accumulation of dirt. With summer coming, remember to check that your watch case is still waterproof enough to avoid minor accidents during your day at the beach.
